As responsible citizens, we undertook to clear some of the mountain top
of litter. The litter in this case being obsidian arrowheads,
definitely not native to the Steens area.
Look -- up in the sky -- it's a dot, it's a plane, actually it's an F-16
rolling inverted for a terrain-following pass over the mountain. Thanks
for the air show!
Donny and Don take a break at the edge of Little Blitzen Gorge
Some of the flora at Steens. I would have taken more pictures, but
everything was waving in the wind and only the shortest things held
still enough. Spring is said to move slowly up the slopes of the
mountain all summer long. As the snow gradually melts there is always a
fresh crop of flowering plants and new green grass.
